Former English captain Nasser Hussain had quite a mixed captaincy stint. During Nasser Hussain’s term as English captain, India began its rise in world cricket under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly in which the likes of Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif, and Yuvraj Singh also glittered. Hussain’s only ODI hundred resulted in a losing cause as India chased down 326 in the famous Natwest final of 2002.

But the cricketer-turned-commentator has singled out one Indian batsman, whose technique he finds magnificent. He also conceded that to dismiss him, the English camp used to brainstorm aplenty. It was none other than the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who gave a tough time not only to the Englishmen. Tendulkar was an indispensable part of India’s setup for over 20 years and is the highest run-getter in Tests and ODIs above all players.

Nasser Hussain admitted that when taken into consideration all-time batsmen, none surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s magnificent technique. The 52-year-old recalled that they used to convene countless team meetings to discuss how to remove Sachin cheaply.

The 47-year-old is also the most-capped player in Tests and ODIs and the highest century-maker as well.

Overall when I think about all-time batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar had a magnificent technique, when I was England skipper, I cannot remember how many team meetings we used to have just to discuss how to get Tendulkar out,” Nasser Hussain told Ian Bishop in the podcast ‘Inside out’.

The Chennai-born former England batsman believes that technique is crucial to get runs all over the world and prefers batsmen who play with soft hands, letting the ball come to them. He admired Kiwi captain Kane Williamson’s technique in the modern era, who can play all three formats equally well and acclimatise to its needs.

For me, the technique is getting runs in all parts of the world, and I like someone who plays with soft hands and lets the ball come to him, Kane Williamson for me has a very good technique in the current era, he plays the ball late with soft hands, as a result of T20 cricket, players in the modern game play with hard hands. Williamson can play all three formats and can adapt his game to each,” he added.
