India star Ravichandran Ashwin had caused a stir in this year’s Indian Premier League when he ran out Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, Ravichandran Ashwin decided to ‘Mankad’ Buttler after the latter left his crease before the spinner could release the ball. What made things worse for the former Kings XI Punjab skipper was that he dismissed Buttler without giving him a prior warning.

While Ravichandran Ashwin was well within his rights to dislodge the bails, the method was deemed against the “spirit of the game”. He was later slammed by a number of cricketers and fans although the spinner has always rightly maintained that he didn’t do anything wrong. And Ravichandran Ashwin has once again made it clear that he would not shy away from pulling off Mankads in next year’s IPL too.

Ashwin made himself clear while interacting with the fans on Twitter on Monday. The ace spinner was having a question-answer session with the fans when one of them asked him:

“Who are the potential batsmen you can Mankad this IPL?”

In reply, Ravichandran Ashwin made it clear that he would not shy away from running-out any batsman who leaves the crease before he delivers the ball.

“Anyone that goes out of the crease. ✅,” wrote Ashwin.

A new challenge:

Ravichandran Ashwin will have a new challenge in next IPL as he will represent Delhi Capitals. Last month, Delhi secured his services from Kings XI Punjab during the trade window. Ashwin led the Kings XI in last two seasons but without much success.

Kings XI failed to make it to the playoffs in either of the two seasons. In two seasons, he picked up 25 wickets for the side. Overall, the 33-year old is one of the most consistent performers in IPL since making his debut in 2009. So far, he has picked up 125 wickets from 139 games at an excellent economy rate of 6.79. He was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings side that won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011.
