Rishabh Pant Should Learn From Virat Kohli On How To Keep The Game Simple: Sourav Ganguly

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has advised Rishabh Pant to learn from Virat Kohli on how to pace his innings.

There is absolutely doubt that Rishabh Pant is one of the most exciting talents in the game right now. Pant has not looked back since impressing in the Under-19 World Cup in 2016. He followed it up with a stunning domestic season, where he scored over 800 runs including a triple-century.

The 2017 was not a great year by his standards and he is making amends for it in 2018 in style. Pant ended this year’s IPL as the second highest run-getter with 684 runs from 14 games. It included five fifties and one century.

He soon found a place in India A squad for the England tour where he impressed as well. It paved his way for Test call-up, and he made a big impression again. The southpaw got off the mark in Tests with a six before scoring a stunning century in the final Test.

It was followed by a blistering 84-ball 92 runs knock against Windies in the first Test. The knock paved the way for his maiden ODI call up.  He also scored an impressive fifty in the final T20I against Windies.

Pant, however, has failed to do well in Australia so far. In the first T20I, he scored 20 and played a rash shot to get out at a time when the match was in a critical situation. In the third game, he failed to open his account.

So far in his career, he has been seen by many as a slogger.

And Sourav Ganguly believes the youngster should take a leaf out of skipper Virat Kohli’s book on how to style his game.

“Pant is an exceptional talent and is the future of Indian cricket,” wrote Ganguly in his column for The Times of India.

“His run-scoring ability, that too all around the wicket, is remarkable. But one thing he quickly needs to learn from his captain Virat Kohli, who is such a fine example of this concept, is how to keep the game simple. I am sure with time, Pant will learn,” he added.

Ganguly further said that the current Indian team is capable of beating Australia in all the formats.

“Had we got a full game at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and had India won in those conditions, the hosts would have been under huge pressure in the final game because this Indian team is capable of winning not only the T20s but also the Tests and ODIs against this Australian side,” Ganguly said.

India, meanwhile, won the third T20I to level the three-match series. Virat Kohli & Co. will now take on Australia in four-Test series, starting December 6.
