Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding believes Dale Steyn who has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against India due to a heel injury will return and play Test cricket again. Steyn suffered tissue damage to his left heel on day two of the first Test and since then has come to the field once to face five deliveries in South Africa’s second innings as the hosts could only manage 130 setting India a target of 208.

Steyn who was out of action for over a year made a comeback to the South African set up in the first Test, but another injury has raised a question about his longevity in the Test format. Steyn made a return to red ball cricket when he played for the South African Invitation XI against the touring Zimbabwe side.

The estimated recovery time for this heel injury is 4-6 weeks, but have not completed three of his last five Tests has questions over his international future.

Holding, who has 249 wickets in 60 Tests, believes that this is not the end of the road for the legendary African bowler who has 417 wickets in 85 Tests to his name.

Holding told Netwerk24:

“This injury is not nearly as serious as his previous one he had. The shoulder problem he had was a serious one because it is a mechanical part of your body that does all the hard work.”

Holding believes that Steyn will be fit and will be available for selection in time for the Test against Australia in Durban on 1st March.
