Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has expressed his desire of seeing former BCCI president Anurag Thakur back in the cricket administration.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court removed Anurag Thakur as the board president along with Ajay Shirke as secretary in order to set the stage for a revamp of the cricket board after the two officials failed to comply with the court’s order to implement the Lodha Panel reforms. Thakur had fallen into trouble after he committed an perjury by asking the intervention of International Cricket Council (ICC) via a letter in order to stop the implementation of Lodha Committee recommendations. The board is currently governed by the apex-court appointed Committee of Administrators headed by Vinod Rai.

But Ganguly now wants to see Thakur in the administration. The former cricketer expressed his wish after Thakur wished him on his 45th birthday on Friday (July 8).

“Dear @SGanguly99 birthday ?? greetings! Wish you a lovely time w/ friends & family, may you continue to inspire our budding cricketers!” Thakur wrote on Twitter.

In reply, Ganguly wrote:“dear Anurag thank u so much … need u back in Indian cricket.”

Ganguly, meanwhile, is a part of BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee along with ex-teammates Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. The three-member panel has been assigned the duty of appointing the new India coach just like they appointed Anil Kumble last year.

According to The Press of India, six of the ten candidates who had applied for the head coach’s post have been shortlisted for the interview in front of the CAC. The six selected candidates are Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput while Dodda Ganesh, Lance Klusener, former Oman coach Rakesh Sharma and Upendranath Bramhachari, a layman with no cricketing background were rejected.
