It is the last Test for Rangana Herath in his cricketing career but it cannot stop him from breaking records. The veteran spinner bagged his 100th Test wicket at Galle thus equalling the record of Muttiah Muralitharan. He also joined the list of bowlers, who bagged 100 Test wickets at a single venue.

The wicket of Joe Root is not only his 100th at Galle but also his 431st wicket in Test format. It helped him to level with the Kiwis former great Richard Hadlee in the list of most Test wickets. Hopefully, he will leapfrog in his swansong.

So far, Sri Lanka’s legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and England’s James Anderson are the only bowlers to bag 100 wickets at a single venue. Muralitharan bagged century of wickets at three different venues while James Anderson did the same at Lord’s.

Rangana Herath cleans up Joe Root:

Coming to the match progress, initially, it was England, who won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they haven’t got the decent start with Lakmal ripping through Rory Burns and Moeen Ali on consecutive deliveries.

However, Joe Root and Keaton Jennings steadied the ship by adding a 62-run partnership before Joe Root walked back with a brisk 35. He was quickly followed by Keaton Jennings and Ben Stokes to make things worse for the visitors.

However, Jos Buttler and the debutant Ben Foakes fought hard to avoid the further hiccups. Just when things looked settled Buttler walked back when Dilruwan Perera got the edge of his flashing willow.

Currently, at the end of 85 overs, it is Ben Foakes and Adil Rashid, who are fighting in the middle to put a decent total on the board. Dilruwan Perera bagged three wickets while Suranga Lakmal chipped in with two wickets. England is currently at 296-7.
