The former Australia skipper, Steven Smith and his deputy David Warner have been recently in the news. Lately, the duo was seen having a crack against the Australian pace attack in the nets ahead of the Test series against India. Meanwhile, a depleted Australia side will look to gather motivation from the experienced campaigners.

Of late, Warner was seen having a net session with the likes of Pat Cummins and Co. ahead of the 3rd T20I against India in Sydney. Smith too, sweated it out against some quick bowling by his colleagues. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has set up an Ashes warm-up match in England between 22 cricketers from the country to find the right balance.

Australia will take on Australia A in the final practice game ahead of the 1st Test on 1st August next year. The warm-up tie is likely to take place in the Rose Bowl. Also, the fixture will be no ordinary one, as Smith and Warner are certain to feature to fine-tune their form.

Moreover, there are talks of letting the duo to play in the second half of the Sheffield Shield, as that would give them much practice ahead of an important year.

Smith and Warner in the scheme of things

Smith recently had animated chat with coach Justin Langer, and it seems he is very much in the scheme of things. Under Langer, Australia managed to win just five of their 21 games across all three formats. Their recent win came against India in Brisbane. However, the hosts bagged a narrow victory in the 1st T20I.

“We have had enough of getting beaten, we have had enough of getting bashed up, and I just loved how brave the boys were. The way they fielded, the way they batted, they were brave, they had a red-hot dip. “That’s what Australians are good at, aren’t we? We get to a point – we say: ‘You know what, we have had enough of this. When are we going to turn it around?” Langer said post the victory.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led team returned to level the T20Is 1-1.
