Venkatesh Prasad To Join Kings XI Punjab As Bowling Coach: Reports

Venkatesh Prasad is in line to be appointed as the bowling coach of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab, a report in mid-day suggests.

The former India bowling coach resigned from the post of the chief selector of the junior team yesterday.

It was learnt that he has resigned from his post as he was in talks with a franchise to join in the capacity of bowling coach.

His resignation came just one month after India U19 clinch the junior World Cup title by defeating Australia in the final, comfortably.

As per the rules of BCCI, anybody associated with BCCI cannot be part of an IPL team, the reason why he left the job, as it looks.

This rule saw Rahul Dravid (Delhi Daredevils), Paras Mhambrey (Mumbai Indians), R Sridhar (Kings XI Punjab), Bharat Arun (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Patrick Farhat (Kings XI Punjab) leaving their job in IPL so as to be associated with the Indian team.

Dravid and Mhamrey are a part of the India U19 and India A set up while the other three players are associated with the Indian team.

The former were issued contracts by BCCI last year while the members of the senior team have always been offered contracts.

Since Prasad had to assure that he isn’t part of a BCCI team before joining the IPL team, he decided to leave the job at BCCI.

If he is offered a contract by Kings XI Punjab, it is sure that it will be a lengthy deal as Brad Hodge – Head Coach of Kings XI Punjab – was given the contract for three years.

Other than Hodge, Virender Sehwag, Mithun Manhas and J Arun Kumar are the other members of Kings XI Punjab.

Sehwag is the Head of Cricketing Operations and Mentor of the franchise while Hodge is the Head Coach of the franchise.

Mithun Manhas is the assistant coach of the franchise while J Arun Kujar is the batting coach.

Recently, Mithun also joined Bangladesh U19 as batting consultant for U19 World Cup.

J Arun Kumar is associated with Hyderabad in domestic cricket.
