Matthew Wade, the Gujarat Titans (GT) wicketkeeper-batter, had his stumps demolished by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Deepak Hooda at an interesting junction of the chase. Both the teams made their Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) debut in the 4th match of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 28, 2022.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first keeping in mind the dew at the Wankhede ground. GT had Matthew Wade, David Miller, Lockie Ferguson, and Rashid Khan as their overseas players. LSG meanwhile picked three overseas cricketers in Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, and Dushmantha Chameera.

Despite Mohammad Shami (3/25) demolishing their top-order Lucknow Super Giants managed to post 158/6 on the board ignoring the fact they were 29/4 at one stage. This was all due to the 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Deepak Hooda, who made 55, and Ayush Badoni, the debutant. Badoni continued after Hooda got out and made 54 runs with 4 fours and 3 sixes to his name, getting out in the last over of the LSG innings.

While Gujarat Titans started their innings with a boundary on the first ball, Shubman Gill (0) and Vijay Shankar (3) got out for cheap, both falling to the searing pace of Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera.

Then Matthew Wade and Hardik Pandya came together and added 57 runs for the third wicket. This was the juncture where Gujarat Titans lost two set batters. Hardik Pandya got out caught by Manish Pandey trying to hit his brother Krunal out of the Wankhede stadium for 33 in 28 balls.
