The quarter-finals of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy has started and heavyweight Karnataka have locked horns with minnows Puducherry in the first match. The game witnessed a comedy of fielding error from Karnataka; however, it resulted in a wicket for them.

Puducherry struggled with the bat after Karnataka won the toss and opted to field first. Prasidh Krishna removed the experienced Arun Karthik early to give a major jolt to the batting side. Vinay Kumar, who changed his base from Karnataka to Puducherry couldn’t do much getting out for two to leave his side at 11 for two and dire trouble against a quality bowling unit.

Abhimanyu Mithun the wreaked havoc with the ball to have the opponents at 35 for four with all star batters back in the hut. Suresh Kumar, who played a delightful shot looked confident to bail Puducherry out a school kid like error put more troubles to Puducherry.

Suresh Kumar flicked a ball to mid-wicket and Paras Dogra wanted a run but was sent back. The fielder fired a throw at the bowler’s end and Manish Pandey, who was backing up fumbles to gather the ball. The duo saw it as an opportunity to steal a run. Kumar came charging down the track and this time Dogra declined his request.

Poor Suresh Kumar had nowhere to go. Manish Pandey quickly recovers and flings it towards the striker’s end. Praveen Dubey from point moves across collects it and lobs it to the keeper. KL Rahul takes the bails off and the batsman was not even in the frame.
