The first round of duel between Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah this season was won by the batsman. When Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals locked horns for the first time season, Pant was at his devastating best. He slammed 78 from just 27 balls and Bumrah was not spared either. His knock contained seven fours and as many sixes as Delhi piled up 213 before going on to fold up Mumbai for 176.

Before that game at the Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah had enjoyed immense success against Pant. Of the 17 balls he has bowled at Pant before that clash, Bumrah had dismissed him thrice and conceded runs at a rate of 47.05. Not only that, Pant had also never hit a boundary off Bumrah while 10 of the 17 balls he had bowled at Pant were dots. But Pant came out on top at the Wankhede this season. Bumrah conceded 18 runs from just 7 balls he bowled to Pant. The Delhi star smashed two sixes and a four off Bumrah and turned his record around against the death bowler.

However, on Thursday, Bumrah made up for that off-day and his reaction said it all. The usually calm and composed Bumrah made his frustration clear when he castled Pant. The left-handed batsman was batting on 7 when Bumrah sent him packing in the 14th over. On a pitch where shot making was difficult, Pant went for an audacious drive and paid the price.  He tried to play on the up with the bat well away from the body and consequently missed the line of the ball. The ball went on to uproot the off-stump, triggering a wild reaction from Bumrah.

Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, thrashed Delhi by 40 runs to get back to winning ways.  Put in to bat first, Mumbai scored 168 before restricting the home side to 128 for 9.
