India women cricket team star Smriti Mandhana is the latest person to appear on the Chahal TV, hosted by men team’s spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Mandhana made her maiden appearance on the show on Wednesday after slamming a whirlwind fifty in the first T20I against New Zealand in Wellington. The opening batter, who recently became the number one batter in ODIs, scored the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian, taking just 24 balls to reach the milestone.

However, her heroics went in vain as India squandered a good position to lose the game by 23 runs.  With Mandhana firing on all cylinders, India were well placed at 102 for 1 while chasing 160. However, the game turned on its head once Amelia Kerr dismissed Mandhana for 58. Mandhana’s dismissal opened the floodgates as India lost wickets in heap. They lost their last nine wickets for just 34 runs and were all out for just 136.

After the game, the southpaw made her debut on Chahal TV and as expected the episode left the fans with a wide grin on their face. Leaving behind the setback of losing the game, Mandhana joked around with Chahal after the latter asked whether she was inspired by his batting.

In reply, Mandhana said: “Yes, yes. I was inspired a lot after seeing you bat in the 4th ODI (vs New Zealand in Hamilton). I felt like I have to develop my game. You’re one my inspirations when it comes to batting.

Mandhana also talked about the ICC Player of the Year award which she had won recently, saying:

“I am very happy to have won the ICC Player of the Year award. When Jhulu di (Jhulan Goswami) had won it, I was a kid. I read it in newspapers. It feels nice.”
