India clawed its way back into the ongoing third One-Day International against Sri Lanka after Yuzvendra Chahal got rid of last match’s centurion Angelo Mathews with an absolute beauty.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first was proved right early on when Jasprit Bumrah gave the hosts an early breakthrough by dismissing Danushka Gunathilaka for 13. However, the Men in Blue were then taken aback by a stunning assault from Upul Tharanga. The former Sri Lanka skipper was taking the Indian bowlers to the cleaners and raced away to his fifty off just 36 balls. He was well supported by Sadeera Samarawickrama who played the role of second fiddle perfectly. The duo shared 121-run stand before Yuzvendra Chahal gave the hosts a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Samarawickrama for 42. Kuldeep Yadav then helped the hosts to take command of the proceedings by dismissing Tharanga and the dangerous Niroshan Dickwella in quick succession.

However, Angelo Mathews was still at the crease and India needed to see his back as quickly as possible to stop the visitors from putting up a big total in the series-decider. And in an attempt to get the breakthrough, skipper Rohit Sharma brought Chahal in the attack and the move paid off immediately. The right-arm spinner castled the right-handed batsman with a classic leg-spin which landed on the leg, turned away, making the batsman play for the turn but was thoroughly beaten.

Here is a clip of Chahal’s delivery:
