Wicketkeeper-Batsman Mushfiqur Rahim Was Also Under ACSU Investigation

Of late, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has hit by many blows for various reasons. Firstly, the players’ strike and now, they struck with a blow to the important players of the team. The ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is standing on the piece of thin ice with his future in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim is the latest player to add to their vow list.

Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan got a proposal from a fixer two years ago. But he didn’t inform it to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Along with Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim’s name was also in the list of the anti-corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

Call-tracking saved Mushfiqur Rahim:

However, Mushfiqur Rahim hasn’t got any anonymous calls in the last couple of years. The call-tracking of ACSU has revealed that there is no fixer contacted him on the phone, which certainly bailed out the wicketkeeper-batsman. When a similar incident happened in 2008, Shakib immediately informed the news to ACSU, this time, he failed to do so.

Now, Shakib Al Hasan will face a ban period from 5 months to 5 years, which is yet to be revealed by the International Cricket Council. The star all-rounder, who is also the country’s Test and T20 skipper, reportedly could be banned for 18 months by the International Cricket Council.

Coming back to Mushfiqur Rahim, the thirty-two-year-old informed Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo of his desire to quit wicket-keeping in the longest format of the game. And also, Domingo reportedly agreed after consulting other members of the team management.

Prior to the decision to quit wicket-keeping, Mushfiqur maintained that he did not intend to relinquish duties anytime soon while facing criticism for sloppy glove-work.

Meanwhile, in absence of Shakib Al Hasan,  the senior-most player Mushfiqur Rahim might lead the team in Tests. And, one between Mahmudullah Riyad and Mosaddek Hossain is set to be the skipper in the three T20 Internationals.
