Mohammad Kaif has wished Sachin Tendulkar on his 45th birthday.

April 24, 1973, was the day when India was blessed with a boy wonder in the form of Sachin Tendulkar. The batting legend was born in Maharashtra and went on to create his legacy in the game.

That he was not an ordinary cricket became very much clear when he took guard on an international stage at the age of just 16.

Moreover, he was up against arch-rivals Pakistan, facing an attack comprising the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan and Abdul Qadir.

However, the teenager did not show any signs of nerves and batted with such class. He took multiple blows on his body before being dismissed for 15. But that short stay made everyone realise that he was something special. And Sachin went on to justify everyone, retiring as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game.

After serving the nation for well over two decades, Sachin retired from the game in November 2013. The batting maestro finished his Test career with a record 15,921 runs in 200 Tests with the help of 51 centuries and 68 fifties.

He had retired from the One-Day Internationals one year before hanging his boots in the Test format. His last appearance in the 50-overs cricket came against Pakistan in 2012 Asia Cup. The greatest ODI player of all time, he finished his illustrious career in the 50-over format, having played 463 ODIs, scored 18,426 runs and made 49 centuries, each of them a world record.

He also represented India in one Twenty20 International against South Africa in 2006 when he managed to score ten runs. Overall, he amassed a mind-boggling 34,357 runs and made 100 centuries in 664 international matches.

Undoubtedly the most decorated batsman in the history of the game, Sachin turned 45 on Tuesday. And as expected, messages poured in from all quarters.

His former teammate, Mohammad Kaif, also took to Twitter to wish him. Kaif had a special message for the batting legend. Recalling Tendulkar’s 98-run knock against Pakistan in 2003 World Cup, he tweeted:

“Centurion 2003 was one of the best days in my life. Not just because we beat Pakistan in a WC match but because I got to witness from a distance of just 22 yards,a display of focus, intensity & genius. What a man, your glory will be unsurpassed @sachin_rt paaji #HappyBirthdaySachin.”
