MS Dhoni has been one of the best masterminds in the game — and he has made some phenomenal contributions to Indian cricket which will always be remembered in cricket history. He has definitely instilled a lot of love in the minds of the Indian fans through his calm and cool approach to the game.

His ability to handle pressure in crucial situations looks inhuman at times and he certainly is one of the all-time legends of limited-overs cricket. With a note on that, it is time to look at 7 records held by the legendary wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni which might never be broken.

7 Records Held By MS Dhoni Which Might Never Be Broken:

Dhoni has captained India in a record 331 matches in international cricket across formats and he has won 178 out of those matches losing 120 with a win percentage of 53.77. Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 324 international matches as a captain of Australia but has a better win percentage than Dhoni(67.90).

Dhoni was handed the captaincy when he was very young in international cricket and hence his successful campaign for India meant that he will keep continuing as the captain until he retires. He stepped down as captain in 2016 to hand over his reins to Virat Kohli.

Most IPL Matches As A Captain:

Dhoni has also captained the most number of matches in IPL as he started the tournament in the inaugural edition in 2008 as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings franchise. Being one of the popular figures among Indian fans, Dhoni has won three IPL titles which is the second-best overall.

Dhoni has captained a franchise 174 times in IPL including the two teams he has played so far with Rising Pune Supergiants and Chennai Super Kings. 2017 was the only IPL season he played under the captaincy of Steve Smith for the Rising Pune Supergiants.

Dhoni is the only captain in international cricket to have won all the three major ICC tournaments and it started off with the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, then the famous 2011 50 over World Cup in India, and the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.

He also has won four major finals in ICC tournaments which equals the record held by Imran Khan and Ricky Ponting. Dhoni has captained India in 10 ICC tournaments including two 50 over World Cups, two Champions Trophy, and six T20 World Cups.

Dhoni holds the record for the highest score by an Indian wicket-keeper in both test and ODI format. His 183 not out against Sri Lanka in 2005 in ODI’s batting at number three was a big achievement and it was an innings that shifted the eyes of the whole of India cricket fans towards him.

Dhoni also scored a double century in tests in 2013 against Australia and his 224 in Chennai is the highest score by an Indian wicket-keeper in Tests. This record is likely to stay for a long time and the current Indian wicket-keepers might have a chance only if they become a regular in the playing XI.

Dhoni also has the most runs in international cricket batting at number six or below and he has scored a staggering 10,268 runs in international cricket in the lower middle order. No other batsman has reached the 10,000 run-mark and the closest has been South Africa’ Mark Boucher with 9365 runs.

Dhoni has often come down in the batting order so that he can take the pressure in the final overs of finishing off the innings which he is really good at. He makes sure that he takes the game deep and has always played according to the needs of the situation.

MS DDhoni’s average is above 50, which is pretty high in ODI cricket, and one of the main reasons for it has been that it is really difficult to dismiss him. Dhoni doesn’t provide the bowler with the opportunity to take his wicket most of the time, and it is often he that has thrown his wicket away.

Dhoni holds the record for the most number of not-outs in ODI cricket 84 times which is 12 more than the second-best Shaun Pollock. Interestingly, India has won 49 out of the 51 matches Dhoni has stayed not out in the second innings and such has been the impact from him in successful chases.

Most Stumpings In International Cricket:

Dhoni is very quick when it comes to stumpings in international cricket and he can take the bails off in a whisker of a second. His reaction in milliseconds is often termed as unmatchable and indeed, is terrifying as a batsman when Dhoni is behind the stumps.

MS Dhoni holds the record for the most number of stumpings in international cricket with 195 across all formats and Mushfiqur Rahim is the second-best among the current cricketers with 88 stumpings.
