The Pakistani captain was harshly criticized by Gautam Gambhir, who also referred to him as a “selfish” player, and Shahid Afridi has responded.

Babar has recently struggled, first in the Asia Cup and most recently at the T20 World Cup in Australia, where the star Pakistan batsman has just about made it. The former India opener’s comments are a result of this recent slump.

Babar has currently played three games and has a score of 0 against India, 4 against Zimbabwe, and 4 once again against the Netherlands. In a dig at the Pakistani captain, Gambhir said that Babar should focus on the team and not on himself, perhaps relegating himself to the middle order and allowing someone like Fakhar Zaman to open the batting for the side.

“In my opinion, you should first think about your team rather than yourself; if things don’t go as planned, you should have moved Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is known as selfishness, and it is simple to be selfish as a captain. It is simple for Babar and Rizwan to open Pakistan’s innings and set numerous records. If you want to be a leader, you must consider your team “, Gambhir stated on television during Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands on Sunday.

“You need to be very careful with words”: Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi, who has no love lost for Gambhir, responded to the statement by offering Babar an odd idea and pointing out that while players can sometimes be legitimately the target of criticism, the criticism should be constructive and aim to make the player better.

“During the tournament, we’ll try and tell Babar to say something about him. After all, he (Gambhir) will head straight back home to India too,” Afridi said on Samaa TV.

“There will always be criticism, but you must use extra care when using words. You should utilize words that will serve as advice to the gamer while also making the audience understand it. In terms of Babar, he has delivered numerous match-winning efforts” Shahid Afridi said.

“Few Pakistan batters have the consistency with which he has scored. He may not have lived up to expectations, which is why he is receiving criticism.” Shahid Afridi Added.

In three matches so far, Babar has scores of 0 against India, 4 against Zimbabwe, and 4 again against the Netherlands.
