Chris Gayle in same category as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli? West Indies legend says this

Former West Indies explosive batter Chris Gayle, aka the Universe Boss, claimed that it was an honor for him to be included in the same bracket as Indian batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Gayle made this claim while speaking to Cricbuzz recently, during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy tour at the iconic Empire State Building in New York.
It will be the first time in the tournament’s history that the T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies. In fact, it’s the first occasion for people in the USA to catch an ICC event and it’ll be just the second time a major cricketing event is heading to North America with the first one being the country’s franchise tournament – the Major League Cricket (MLC). Chris Gayle was over there to promote the event in the capital city of NY.

He is a true pioneer in the shortest format of the game and that was mentioned by the interviewer who asked him about his feeling to be known as one of those cricketers who ruled across formats just like Sachin and Kohli. In response, Gayle expressed his gratitude to be included among the bests and labeled that feeling as “special”.
“Those guys you mentioned, Sachin and Virat, the only two guys with over 50 ODI centuries. I don’t even have the words to describe them. And to be put in the same category as them is special, Chris Gayle said via Cricbuzz.
Gayle labels Kohli “Unique” and Sachin as the “Trendsetter”
Chris Gayle then explained that Virat Kohli, for him, is very unique and someone who still has at least 4-5 years of cricket left in him. He expressed his eagerness to see the ending phases of Kohli’s career unfold and what’s in store for Indian cricket as well.
The Jamaica-born former cricketer claimed that Sachin Tendulkar was the “original” trendsetter who has 100 centuries to his name, something that is yet to be replicated. Lastly, Gayle justified why he is known as the Universe Boss and he explained that he brought the spice and entertainment in all the formats.
“Very unique, the one and only Virat Kohli is still going and still going very strong. Still got a lot of years left in him to play all formats. We’ll see what calls he makes for himself and for Indian cricket as well. Sachin was the original trend-setter, with over 100 international centuries, which is remarkable as well. And like you said, the Universe Boss has brought entertainment and spice for all formats. I’ve got a triple there,” Chris Gayle concluded.
