The Cricket West Indies (CWI) is closely monitoring the security situation as the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 faces terror threats from North Pakistan. Cricket West Indies has assured safety to all teams regarding security for the upcoming ICC tournament in the West Indies in June this year.

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, featuring 20 teams, is scheduled to take place from June 1 to June 29, 2024. The USA and West Indies will host the league stage matches, while knockout matches, including the Super 8 games, semi-final matches, and final, will be played in the Caribbean Islands.

CWI CEO Johnny Graves assured that they are handling the situation cautiously and will implement all necessary measures to prevent it.

"Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries," the security alert said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

We Work Closely With Authorities In The Host Countries - Johnny Graves

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Johnny Graves affirmed their readiness to address any security issues that may arise during or before the tournament. Graves emphasized their collaboration with authorities in host countries and cities to mitigate potential risks.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Graves told Cricbuzz.

"We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority, and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," he added.

Reports have revealed that the potential threat to the T20 World Cup has been identified through the media group "Nashir Pakistan," associated with pro-Islamic State (Daesh). Trinidad's Daily Express described Nashir-e Pakistan as an Islamic State group-affiliated propaganda channel.

Trinidad's Prime Minister Keith Rowley stated that Caricom and security agencies are collaborating to address the threat to the World Cup. Barbados' regional security officials are reportedly monitoring the situation closely to prevent any potential mishaps for the marquee tournament.
