"England have been given a lesson today" - Michael Vaughan fumes at Ben Stokes & Co.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan expressed his frustration after the team’s torrid outing in Day 3 of the ongoing third Test in Rajkot. He said that Ben Stokes & Co. have been given a lesson that Test cricket is played in ebbs and flows.

At the end of Day 2, the Rajkot Test between India and England was evenly poised. To be fair to say, the visitors were tinch ahead of the game and it seemed that they would take the game away from the Indian team on Day 3, especially with the track being good for batting.

Ben Duckett put England in bossing state in the game and it was expected that he would set the stage on fire on Day 3. He got up to his 150 but couldn’t go big after that. Nothing to take away from him as he did his job but the way other batters batted, put visitors under pressure.

Joe Root was the first wicket to fall on Day 3 and with the way he got out, it was a needless shot as he got out while playing reverse scoop. His wicket triggered the collapse as batters after that threw their wickets away and allowed Indian bowlers to put them under pressure.

Kuldeep Yadav chipped in as well and picked two wickets, removing Ben Duckett and Jonny Bairstow for a duck. Skipper Ben Stokes (41) looked good but he perished while attempting a big shot.

After the opposition’s skipper wicket, it was Mohammed Siraj, who took charge and wrapped up the English innings. Mohammed Siraj picked four wickets and helped India end England in innings on 319 runs. With the way, the visitors batted on Day 2, it was expected that they would take the first-innings lead but it wasn’t meant to be and they also had themselves to blame.

With England displaying a torrid outing with the bat on Day 3, former player Michael Vaughan was left fuming. He noted that although Bazball is exacting but they need to have common sense at times.

Michael Vaughan feels that England’s attacking approach will cost them the game and noted that the team needs to have temperament and skill to bat for long times, which they failed. Speaking to BBC Sport, he explained:

“England have been given a lesson today that Test cricket is played in ebbs and flows. The swashbuckling exciting Bazballing is well worth getting up for at 4am, but I just wish they had a bit of common sense at times.

“It’s going to cost them the game – they should have enough temperament and skill to bat the majority of the day and they failed.”

England conceded a lead of 126 in the first innings and after that, they were poor with the ball. India batters played sensationally with Yashasvi Jaiswal slamming a ton and Shubman Gill unbeaten at 65. At stumps, India were at 196/2 and were ahead by 322 runs.
