Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels Joe Root should move to his classic batting style in the upcoming IND vs ENG 3rd Test. Michael Vaughan also feels Joe Root can smash hundreds if he bats all day instead of the quick-batting approach.

Joe Root has struggled to score runs in the IND vs ENG Test series so far. Root, who also holds the record for a Test double ton in India, has mustered just 52 runs in the ongoing India vs England Test series.

Root got out for 29 and 2 in the 1st Test. Later, he lost his wickets for 5 and 16 in the 2nd Test. Notably, Root has struggled to bat at a higher strike rate under the Ben Stokes-Brendon McCullum regime. He is known for his patient batting style.

Joe Root will score at a good lick that way anyway: Michael Vaughan

In his column for The Telegraph, former England all-rounder Michael Vaughan reckoned that the team should allow Joe Root to bat at his pace in the IND vs ENG Test series. He feels that he will smack a ton if he is allowed to bat all day.

“That means going back to what made him such a brilliant player against spin. They need their rock at No 4 to peel off a couple of big hundreds to bat all day. He will score at a good lick that way anyway. Root is the anomaly in this team for that reason. He’s their beautiful classic car, surrounded by souped-up sports cars,” Michael Vaughan wrote.

Jasprit Bumrah is a big trouble for Joe Root, feels Michael Vaughan

Vaughan, who played 82 Tests for England during his career, also feels that Jasprit Bumrah is a big trouble for Joe Root in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. Notably, Bumrah has dismissed Root 8 times in Tests.

“The trouble in India is that Jasprit Bumrah seems to have his (Joe Root) number, having dismissed him eight times in Tests. That means that he’s got a problem with the only seamer who will bowl much to him, and with his method against spin,” Michael Vaughan further added.

Joe Root averages 52+ under skipper Ben Stokes

Joe Root is a Test specialist batter for England. Notably, Root showed a stunning show in Tests last year, hitting 787 runs across 14 innings in the longest format averaging 65.58. His average stood at 45.75 in 2022. However, while he slammed 5 tons in 15 Tests in 2022, he only shattered 2 centuries in 8 Tests last year.

Under Ben Stokes’ leadership, the right-handed batter has played 20 Tests. He has slammed 1500-plus runs in 35 innings averaging 52.63. He has also smacked 5 tons and 7 half-centuries. However, the former England skipper needs to pull up his socks in the upcoming IND vs ENG Tests.
