Virat Kohli opted out of the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England citing personal reasons. The speculations over the “personal reason” behind Virat Kohli’s absence ended on Saturday after his close friend and former RCB teammate South African legend AB de Villiers revealed that Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child. The couple was blessed with a daughter in January 2021.

The revelation has sparked questions over Virat Kohli’s availability in the remaining three Test matches against England. India and England are currently facing each other in the second Test of the five-match series at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. Reports later in the evening indicated that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is slated to have a word with the former India captain about his plans at the earliest.

Virat Kohli withdrew himself from the first two Tests just three days before the start of the first Test in Hyderabad. BCCI later released a statement saying that Kohli had a chat with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management, where he emphasized that “while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.”

AB de Villiers revealed on his YouTube channel during a Q & A session that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are expecting the birth of their second child. According to him, his former RCB teammate has made the right decision as most people’s priority is family and one cannot judge Virat Kohli for that.

Virat Kohli Will Be Approached By The Selection Committee To Clear The Situation

“Yes, his second child is on the way. It’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision,” said De Villiers.

According to a report on PTI, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar or some of the top officials from the board will have a word with Kohli, who is presently out of the country, to get a clear picture and find out whether he is in a position to resume national duty. “Family comes first as BCCI’s press release stated and Virat will only play if he feels that he is in a position to play,” a BCCI source in Know of Things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

India is currently leading in the second Test against England and has played some good cricket in Vizag. The hosts lost the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs and are currently behind by 0-1 in the five-match series. India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and England was the last team to win a Test series against India in India. The hosts have won 16 consecutive Test series since 2012 and are now expecting to win another one by defeating England in the five-match series.
