We deserve credit for having Yashasvi Jaiswal playing aggressively - Ben Duckett

England batter Ben Duckett made a bold statement after the end of Day 3 of the ongoing Test against India in Rajkot. He praised India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal for his ton but said their Bazball approach deserves a lot of credit for that.

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was at his best in the second innings of the ongoing game. The young batter took the game away from England with his aggressive style of play and helped the hosts take a massive lead over 300 innings in the second innings.

Yashavi Jaiswal took some time to get going but after that, he played a stupendous innings. The opening batter took the attack to the England bowlers and made them think a lot. He gave no leeway to the bowlers and punished them all over the park.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a brutal ton and put India in the driver’s seat. He continued his dream run, making sure that he scored his 2nd hundred in the series. He got retired hurt at 104 runs off 133 balls and also slammed 9 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. His knock helped India take a lead of 322 runs.

Ben Duckett hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal as an incredible player and said that he is a superstar in the making. But the England batter said that England deserves a lot of credit because they have made the opposition think differently. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“He [Jaiswal] seems an incredible player, looks like a superstar in the making. When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket. We saw it a bit in the summer and it’s quite exciting to see other players and other teams are also playing that aggressive style of cricket.”

I probably went too defensive – Ben Duckett on his dismissal

Ben Duckett was the shining light for England in the first innings. He played a stupendous innings and scored 153 runs that put Team India under immense pressure. He got out on Day 3 as he perished to Kuldeep Yadav.

Ben Duckett admitted that he got defensive against an off-spinner but he said that he would prefer getting out and putting the bowling under pressure. Talking further about it, he explained:

“I probably went too defensive against off-spin over the last couple of years and it’s only recently I’ve started to put a bit of pressure back on them and I’m very happy I did that yesterday.

“I’d much rather get out putting the bowling under pressure and getting caught on the fence at times, as long as it’s a shot that you play and have practised thousands and thousands of times. That’s why I didn’t run down once and didn’t try to hit them back over their heads. Everything was shots I’ve played for so many years now. It’s a shot I’m at peace with if I get out because I commit to it so often, I rarely miss it.”

At stumps on Day 3, India was 196/2 and were ahead by 322 runs.
