Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma has revealed the advice he gave Kohli when the right-handed batsman was new to the Indian team. Sharma stated that it is important to pay attention to what his well-wishers and the people around him tell him. Virat made his international debut in the 2008 ODI against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.

Virat Kohli, who has recently shown good form in limited-overs cricket, was expected to make a huge impact with the bat in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The former Indian skipper scored 44 runs in four innings against Bangladesh and will be trying to bounce back in India’s upcoming red-ball match against Australia next year.

I Told Him That You Must Respect Their Opinions – Rajkumar Sharma

Speaking to India News Sports, Rajkumar Sharma mentioned that Kohli used to listen to old coaches and players in his early days. However, he said that it was not possible to follow every single suggestion and that he should only focus on what suited his game the most.

“When Virat Kohli was new to the Indian team, he used to come and tell me what some former players and coaches would say to him. I made him understand that they are his well-wishers who want to see him do well,” Sharma was quoted as saying to India News Sports.

“However, I told him that you must respect their opinions, but should also keep in mind that it is not necessary that everything they say will suit your game,” he added.

Kohli is one of the top batters in the world, having scored 72 hundreds in international cricket in 14 years. Kohli is only second on the list of most international hundreds after Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is the only batter to have struck 100 centuries at the international level.
