Scott Styris thinks Shubman Gill’s ODI record will keep improving as he performs more as an opening batsman.

He went on to say that the youngster possesses all of the necessary characteristics to become one of the finest batters in the world.

In the first two matches of the current ODI series against the West Indies, Gill has produced some excellent performances. In the first game of the series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, he scored 64 runs off just 53 deliveries, then on Sunday, July 24, he added a 43-run innings at the same stadium.

Given that Team India currently has a wide range of opening alternatives, Scott Styris was questioned if Gill’s brilliance in the second ODI had increased the pressure on Shikhar Dhawan during an interview on the Sports 18 program “Sports Over the Top.” He answered:

“Because Gill is such a refined player, I anticipate that average to be significantly higher when he (Gill) represents India at the highest level. There are hardly many people that like Shubman Gill more than I do.”

“Over the past few years, I have been pretty open about that. He has the talent and knowledge of cricket, in my opinion, to be among the best in the world.”

‘Indian openers gave the team a slow start’: Scott Styris

Scott Styris commented on the second ODI against the West Indies, stating that the Indian openers gave the team a slow start. He expanded:

“Shikhar Dhawan’s strike rate in this match was not impressive. They got off to a slow start; even when Shubman Gill was out, the score was 60-odd after 15-16 overs, which is not a great strike rate when chasing 300+.”

Team India has won the three-match series against the West Indies 2-0 after two close victories.
