The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was the first Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise to announce the list of their released and retained players before the January 20 deadline was up. After failing to win the IPL 2020, the franchise is determined to start afresh and hence have hired former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as their batting consultant for the upcoming season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last played in the final of the IPL in 2016 and had finished last on the points table in IPL 2017 and IPL 2019. They turned things around in IPL 2020 a bit by qualifying for the playoffs but were eliminated from the race for the finals, after losing the Eliminator to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sanjay Bangar named batting consultant by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for IPL 2021

Former India Test opener Sanjay Bangar, who played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for the national cricket team from 2001-2004, has donned many hats in his coaching stint after calling time on his playing career. He has extensive coaching experience given that he was the Indian national cricket team’s batting coach for a long time.

In IPL as well, Sanjay Bangar was coach of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise for three years. Before Kings XI Punjab, Bangar was associated with the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise in 2011. In 2014 he took up the role with the Indian national cricket team and was further promoted to assistant coach in 2017. His contract was not renewed following India’s semi-final exit from the ICC World Cup 2019.

Now Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Sanjay Bangar their batting consultant, in addition to Sridharan Sriram, who is the batting and spin bowling coach. The RCB franchise announced this addition to their family on Twitter.

“We are delighted to welcome Sanjay Bangar to the RCB Family as a batting consultant for #IPL2021! Welcome aboard, Coach! #PlayBold #WeAreChallengers #NowARoyalChallenger,” tweeted Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The addition of Sanjay Bangar to the coaching staff will be a huge bonus for the franchise, as they prepare for the upcoming IPL 2021 auction which will take place in Chennai on February 18. The IPL 2021 edition is slated to be played in India itself.
