"It's an obvious choice" - Cricket experts name MS Dhoni as captain of best-ever IPL team

Veteran wicketkeeper and former captain MS Dhoni has been chosen as the best captain of the greatest team of the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Cricketing greats such as Wasim Akram, Matthew Hayden, Dale Steyn, and Tom Moody and over 70 famous journalists were part of the selection panel that named MSD as the greatest leader of IPL. Dhoni is the most successful skipper in the history of the Indian Premier League and has a win percentage of 59.37.

Former South African pacer Dale Steyn while speaking to Star Sports, stated that MS Dhoni is the leader of men and has won everything including the ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup, and the IPL.

MS Dhoni chosen as the greatest captain of IPL

Dale Steyn said, “It has to be MS Dhoni. He has won everything — World Cup, IPL, ICC Champions Trophy. He’s a leader of men, and you’ve got a bunch of men here that are all at the highest level of their game, and they need someone who has been there and done that and can manage them extremely well on and off the field, so I will have to go with MS Dhoni.”

MS Dhoni has played a major role in grooming players. Players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Jasprit Bumrah have been groomed while playing under his captaincy or with him. Former Australian cricketer and veteran coach Tom Moody was also a part of the selection panel that picked MSD as the greatest captain of the IPL. Moody stated that the major reason he would pick Dhoni is that he has won many great tournaments with average squads.

Tom Moody said, “It has to be MS Dhoni for me, the reason being MS Dhoni has won the title with very good squads and average squads, and that tells me a lot about the captain and how he can lead a variety of talent in a squad to success.”

Another Aussie legend Matthew Hayden picked MS Dhoni as the greatest captain of the Indian Premier League. Hayden stated that he was an obvious choice and every Indian would unanimously pick him. Hayden also added that MSD has a great capability to be an excellent coach.

Matthew Hayden said, “It’s an obvious choice, it’s not a debate over here. It’s going to be unanimous amongst the entire Indian community. Of course, Rohit Sharma, the Hitman, is such an incredible leader as well, so it’s a tough choice, but I’m going to be bold and I’m going to pick Dhoni as a Captain and Coach as well. He started in 2008, Shane Warne was captain and coach, and he took the franchise, the double R’s, to a title that year, and I just feel that MS Dhoni can also be a coach,”

MS Dhoni will be seen in action in the Indian Premier League 2024. MSD will once again lead the Chennai Super Kings and also shall be his last edition of the cash-rich league. Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020 and was only seen playing in the Indian Premier League.
