Jaydev Unadkat achieves one-of-a-kind record in the IPL after the MI vs SRH clash

Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat has clinched a unique record in Indian Premier League after featuring in SRH vs MI game on Wednesday, March 27. The left-arm seamer has become the first Indian player to play for 8 teams in IPL history. Jaydev Unadkat is a member of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024.

The franchise picked Unadkat during IPL 2024 auction at his base price of Rs. 2 crore. In the previous season, the 34-year-old seamer was part of Lucknow Super Giants. However, the franchise released him from the squad ahead of IPL 2024 auction.

Jaydev Unadkat made IPL debut for KKR in 2010 season

After joining Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, Jaydev Unadkat has played for 8 franchises in IPL, the most by any Indian player. He made his debut in Indian Premier League in the 2010 season, when he was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the auction.

He was part of the franchise for three seasons and also won the trophy in IPL 2012. Later in IPL 2013, Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed him into their squad. In IPL 2014 and 2015 seasons, the senior Indian pacer was part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

He returned to KKR in 2016 for only one edition. He was a member of Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2017. From 2018 to 2021 seasons, Unadkat spent four years with Rajasthan Royals team. Mumbai Indians picked him in IPL 2022 but released him later.

Lucknow Super Giants picked him last season but dropped him after the season. Now, he is part of SRH in IPL 2024. Hence, since his debut in IPL 2010, Unadkat has played for above 8 teams in Indian Premier League. He has played at least one game for all these teams.

Notably, former Australia player Aaron Finch holds the record for playing for the most number of franchises in IPL. Finch played for 9 IPL teams from IPL 2009 to 2022. Unadkat now holds the 2nd spot in the overall list.

Unadkat picked 2 wickets in SRH vs MI clash

Playing his first-ever game for SRH against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, Jaydev Unadkat gave a decent show. The Saurashtra pacer picked 2 wickets for 47 runs in the match. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad outplayed Mumbai Indians by 31 runs in the match 8 of IPL 2024.

SRH smacked the highest-ever team total of 277-3 in the match batting first. Travis Head (62), Abhishek Sharma (63), and Heinrich Klaasen (80) shattered blistering fifties to drive the scoreboard to a gigantic total. Later, they restricted MI to 246-5 in 2nd innings to clinch a victory. The highest-scoring game broke numerous records in IPL.
