After witnessing some heart-warming performances from the team and individual players, the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League has come to an end. Multan Sultans topped the points table after the end of the league stage matches. However, they failed to win the title for the second consecutive occasion.

Lahore Qalandars put in a dominant all-round show with both bat and ball in the final of the tournament against the defending champions. They went on to beat them by 42 runs to win their first-ever PSL title.

Over the period of one month, the fans witnessed some sensational performances with both bat and ball. However, amidst all that, a number of notable cricketers had a season to forget. They couldn’t live up to the expectations and endured poor numbers in the tournament. On that note, we take a look at the worst XI of the PSL 2022.

PSL 2022: Worst XI Of The Tournament

  1. Babar Azam

Babar Azam led Karachi Kings this year. He certainly had a season to forget. Under his leadership, Karachi Kings could only manage to win just 1 game out of 10. He failed to live up to the expectations with his captaincy as well as with the bat.

The Karachi Kings captain finished as the sixth-highest run-getter in the tournament but his strike rate of 118.69 is a big concern. Perhaps, all those runs had no value.

  1. Sharjeel Khan

Sharjeel Khan enjoyed an outstanding season with the bat last year. However, the same cannot be said this time around. The left-handed batsman failed to give solid starts consistently. In 10 matches, he managed to score 231 runs in 10 matches at an average of 23.10.

  1. Phil Salt

Phil Salt was one of the important members in the Lahore Qalandars’ batting unit. He was given the opportunity to bat in 9 matches. However, the English cricketer failed to impress as he could only manage to score 63 runs at a dismal average of 9.00.

  1. Haider Ali

Talented Pakistan cricketer, Hailer Ali, once again, couldn’t utilize his opportunities to the fullest. He didn’t have an outstanding season with the bat. In 9 matches, he managed to score 152 runs at an average of 21.71. His strike rate of 116.03 didn’t inspire a lot of confidence either.

  1. Sarfaraz Ahmed

Quetta Gladiators’ skipper, Sarfaraz Ahmed endured another mediocre season with the bat. His performance also had an effect on the team’s standing on the points table. Quetta Gladiators, once again, failed to qualify for the playoffs as they finished at number five on the table with 4 wins in 10 matches. The former Pakistan skipper managed to score 152 runs in 10 matches at an average and strike rate of 38.00 and 115.15 respectively.

  1. Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi proved out to be one of the biggest disappointments for Karachi Kings this season. He endured underwhelming performances with both bat and ball in the tournament. In 9 matches, he only managed to score 129 runs at an average of 16.12. With the ball, he could only pick 5 wickets at a poor average of 42.

  1. Imad Wasim

Karachi Kings didn’t have a great bowling line-up this year. In the absence of Mohammad Amir, the onus was on Imad Wasim to pick the bulk of the wickets. The Karachi Kings all-rounder was economical but failed to pick wickets. In 9 matches, he only managed to pick 5 wickets at an average of 42.60.

  1. James Faulkner

James Faulkner enjoyed a great outing for Lahore Qalandars last season. However, the Australian all-rounder couldn’t make a similar impact for Quetta Gladiators this year. He played 6 matches for the franchise and picked 6 wickets at 32.66. Being the senior bowler in the team, the team certainly wanted more of him.

  1. Mohammad Nawaz

  1. Hasan Ali

Hasan Ali completed our list of the worst XI of the PSL 2022. The leader of the Karachi Kings’s bowling unit managed to pick only 9 wickets in 9 matches at a forgettable average of 38.77. He delivered expensive spells on a number of occasions. Hasan Ali bowled at an economy of over 10 runs an over in the tournament.
