Ravindra Jadeja’s superb all-round performance helped India thrash Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs on the third day of the first Test in Mohali.

Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian opener, praised all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his outstanding performance with both the bat and the ball against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Mohali. Jadeja hit a career-high 175* with the bat and took nine wickets in the game.

Wasim Jaffer believes that Jadeja will be able to bat at No. 7 even when India travels abroad. Because of his improved batting, the 33-year-old now has the option of playing two spinners and five bowlers overall.

“Jadeja is widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders in the world. Jadeja is unbeatable, particularly in Indian conditions. Because of his improved batting, he can perform at No. 7 even outside of India, and Team India will have faith in him. This gives them the option of playing two spinners, making them even more dangerous.”

Jadeja has been assigned to the Grade A category in the recently released list of BCCI contracts. Wasim Jaffer, on the other hand, believes that the all-rounder deserves to be in the A+ category alongside the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Wasim Jaffer Applauses India For Enforcing Follow-On- Decisions:

Wasim Jaffer was also pleased to see the hosts enforcing the follow-on rule on Sri Lanka, who trailed by 400 runs at the end of their first innings. Jaffer believes that because the bowlers were fresh, going for the kill and ending the Test as soon as possible made perfect sense.

“It was encouraging to see India enforcing the follow-up. We’d noticed a pattern where teams were unwilling to enforce the follow-on and would bat again to extend the game into the fourth or fifth day. So it was a wise decision because many wickets were lost in the first session and the bowlers were also fresh.”

The only thing that lacked in the first Test was Jadeja’s 10-wicket haul. It would have been “icing on the cake,” according to Jaffer.
