SA vs IND, 2018: Predicted XI of South Africa – 2nd T20I, Centurion

Updated - 10 Jan 2019, 01:45 AM

South Africa's predicted Xi for the 2nd T20I at Centurion.

Host South Africa has witnessed a dip in form with the change in colour of the ball. Since the commencement of limited-overs fixture, India has totally outclassed the Proteas. However, JP Duminy-led side will look to start fresh and change their fortunes from the second Twenty20 International. Meanwhile, South Africa will take on the visitors on Wednesday in Centurion.

South Africa was badly hurt owing to a number of injuries as they lost the ODI series by a 5-1 margin. Further, they also lost their star batsman AB de Villiers hours before the 1st T20I.

The host will also make an attempt to revamp their batting line-up as their middle-order has not been able to come good. It is likely that South Africa will make one change from the Sunday’s team.

Here is the predicted XI of South Africa for the 2nd T20I:

JJ Smuts has made for himself in the shortest form as a swashbuckling opener. He can hit the ball long and has the ability to give his team a fiery start.

South Africa will need something like that to overpower an otherwise confident Indian line-up. Smuts got a start in the first fixture, however, failed to capitalize on it.

The team will bank on him and Reeza Hendricks to take to provide a strong lay-off to the middle order.

Reeza Hendricks was the lone batsman who crossed the fifty-run mark in the first game. However, it was not enough as South Africa lost the match by 28 runs.

Meanwhile, South Africa will need him to come good once again in the upcoming fixture. Also, he will look to shrug of his inconsistent tagline scoring runs regularly.

The main reason behind South Africa’s failure is that their middle-order has not stepped in. JP Duminy being an experienced campaigner has failed come good and take the onus on themselves.

The Proteas needs their senior player to take responsibility if they want to come back in the series.

David Miller:

Another notable failure in the middle-order is Miller. The southpaw is capable of winning the match at his own will, however, is going through a bad patch.

Meanwhile, Miller needs to find some form with the bat if South Africa wants to keep any hope of coming back.

Farhaan Behardien:

The low-profile all-rounder has an astonishing record in the franchise cricket all over the world. He was the second highest run-scorer in the last game, however, ran out of partners in the end.

Behardien scored at a good rate and will look to continue the same run with the bat in the second fixture.

Heinrich Klaasen (WK):

The wicket-keeper batsman has come in handy after replacing regular gloveman Quinton de Kock. He had already made a mark in this short span.

The Proteas will once again need a superlative effort from Klaasen to help the struggling middle-order.

Andile Phehlukwayo:

Phehlukwayo has shown a lot of prospect in his early days. He has the ability to strike well and can chip in with crucial wickets. Although, he has a habit of lacking runs he is a good player to have in the shortest format.

Phehlukwayo had an average series so far, however, will be eager to change the fortunes both for him and his team.

Aaron Phangiso:

Aaron Phangiso is only inclusion South Africa is likely to make for the 2nd game. He will replace Dane Paterson who had a poor game in the last fixture.

A tall and lanky left-arm spinner, Phangiso has done well so far in the limited opportunities he has got.

Meanwhile, South Africa will want someone like Phangiso to change their fortunes in the rest of the series.

Chris Morris:

The all-rounder has an impressive record to back his ability in this format. However, he has lacked consistency for his country.

Further, Morris will look to help his team to put some good cricket in a display as South Africa will try and come back in the series.

Tabraiz Shamsi:

The left-arm unorthodox spinner needs to produce same feats as his counterpart from the Indian team has done.

However, Shamsi lacks experience against a star-studded Indian batting-order. Meanwhile, he will look to use experience playing in the Indian Premier League to fox the Indian batsmen.

Junior Dala:

The right-arm fast bowler had a good start to his international career giving two early breakthroughs. However, other bowlers failed to cash in on the opportunity.

Meanwhile, he has shown good prospect and will look to repeat his heroics from the last game as South Africa aims to level the series.
