NZ vs WI 2017/18: Jason Holder Fined and Suspended for the Second Test

West Indies lost the first Test against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington by an innings and 67 runs and have gone 0-1 down in the two-match Test series, and now they have lost their captain as well for the second Test as he has been suspended for slow over-rate in the first Test. Windies captain, Jason Holder has been suspended and fined 60 percent of his match fees for his team failing to maintain the over rate and will now miss the Hamilton Test.

This is not the first time that Holder has been found guilty of this offence as this was the fifth time in his captaincy career that he was punished for such an offence. This was his second over-rate offence in the past 12 months as the 26-year-old was found guilty for slow over-rate during the Jamaica Test against Pakistan in April and his second offence in less than a year has led to a one-match suspension for the right arm fast bowler. Windies captain for the second Test has not yet been announced.

West Indies was found three overs short of the target in the Wellington Test, and according to the ICC’s Code of Conduct every player has been fined 30 percent of the match fees- 10 percent per over and the skipper has been fined double of this amount.

In 2015, Holder was banned for an ODI against Sri Lanka for the same offence after being found guilty Against South Africa in January the same year. And just after a month, he was fined again for the same offence in the Hobart Test.

The second Test between New Zealand and West Indies will begin from 9^th December.
