India’s left-arm fast-bowler Jaydev Unadkat lauds young Washington Sundar’s impact in the powerplay overs.
Meanwhile, Unadkat Sundar’s ability to contain batsmen will help them go forward in the tournament.
However, India had won one and lost one in the two matches they have played so far.
Unadkat returned with best figures of three for 38 during the game against Bangladesh underlining his T20 skill. Further, he fetched Rs 11.5 crore from Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League auction.
Sundar’s bowling made an impact:
Unadkat credited off-spinner Washington Sundar’s poise during the powerplay overs. He also admitted it had played a role in the tournament for India.
The host hammered 75 for two in the first game against India. However, India came back strong to contain Bangladesh for 44 for two in the second fixture.
“What benefits us is the way Sundar can contain the batsman. As an off-spinner, it is difficult at times. What stands out for me is his variation of pace. He keeps it simple. When a bowler is containing from one end in the powerplay, the batsmen do come under pressure and make a mistake,” Unadkat said on the eve of the third match.
The 18-year old Sundar opened the bowling in both the matches. Also, he was economical giving away 28 and 23 runs, respectively in his quota of four overs.
Variations are important:
Unadkat stressed on having variations in the armoury in this format to be successful. Unadkart used his variations to perfection, as he tasted success in 2017 IPL.
“Variations are the most important part in this format. If the batsman is expecting us to do something and we come out different, then we have achieved success. Variations are deceptive only if it is not pre-meditated and the batsmen do not expect it all the time,” Unadkat said.
Unadkart further noted the tournament is wide open and they need to play good cricket. He also said all the games are important and they need to express themselves.
