The Indian players were involved in a thrilling Test against South Africa when the auction for the Indian Premier League was going on at Bangalore’s ITC Gardenia Hotel, thousands of miles away from Johannesburg. And one should not blame the players’ for getting distracted by the money involved in the Indian Premier League is just too good to ignore.

India still needed 9 South African wickets to win the Test, but instead of discussing the games, the players were openly talking about the auction. In fact, the Mumbai Mirror reported that the players were also seen following the auction while having breakfast together at the Santon Sun Inter-Continental just hours before the fourth day’s play.

Amidst all this, India skipper Virat Kohli was heard making a rather interesting comment.

“Viru Pa has gone made,” said Kohli according to a news outlet.

And while there is no clarity over what he meant by the comment, one can assume that it might have been made by the 29-year old after seeing Kings XI Punjab’s overboard bidding in the recently-concluded auction. The report also claimed that Kohli might have expressed his disappointment after the Punjab-based outfit secured the services of Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping amount of INR 11 crore.

While some franchises chose to play the waiting game, Kings XI were all aggression right from the outset. They bid for almost all the marquee players as they adopted an aggressive approach right from the start.

At one point, Kings XI Punjab had bought five consecutive players including KL Rahul for Rs 11 crore. After going for almost every player in the marquee player, the franchise finally landed ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and went on to secure the services of some big names like Yuvraj Singh, KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Aaron Finch.

The move eventually paid off as they ended up building one of the strongest sides for the upcoming season. In addition to all the players mentioned above, they also bought the likes of Chris Gayle, David Miller, Marcus Stoinis, Manoj Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal and many other notable players.
