Aaron Finch Sees No Barriers For Steven Smith Captaincy

Australian Captain Aaron Finch has decided to call time on his One Day International Career. The Skipper is going to take part in the 3rd ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy and then bid adieu. Finch has made it clear that he will continue to lead the side in the T20I format. Aaron Finch, the batter who scored more than 5,000 ODI runs would be aiming to finish on a high note against the Mighty Kiwis.

Finch was under the pump for his below-par performance with the bat as the batter was finding new ways to get out. There was a lot of pressure on David Warner as Aaron Finch wasn’t getting a start. Australian Batting Legend Ricky Ponting had come into support of Finch in the time of crisis. Finch’s next target would be to win T20 World Cup 2022 and become the first team to defend the title.

Aaron Finch feels that the infamous ball-tampering scandal has gone too far behind. “I don’t think (it would be an issue),” Finch said.

“He captained a Test match in Adelaide after Pat was out with COVID. So I think that’s all been put to bed.” Finch added.

Aaron Finch wasn’t too sure about Pat Cummins as the next ODI Skipper. “It’s pretty hard but I think if anyone can manage it it’d be Pat” Finch said.

“He is an unbelievably resilient person. He has shown brilliant leadership of the Test group and I’ve loved working with him.

“He takes everything in his stride. He’s got all the tools to do that.”

Who will be the Next ODI Captain

Cricket Australia’s decision to make Pat Cummins the Test Skipper indicated that they are not yet ready to give the throne to Steven Smith. It looks unlikely that Pat Cummins would be the skipper as captaining the team in two formats is quite difficult for a fast bowler in this modern era. We all know how much ODI Cricket is important to Australia as they are the only team which has won 5 Titles.

Marnus Labuschagne can be the Captain of the team as the likes of  Smith & Warner can focus on their game. Naming a skipper won’t be easy as in ODI Cricket; the captain needs to be vigilant. It would be interesting to see what decision CA & George Bailey take as there is only 1 year left for the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023.
