Abhinav Mukund Shares His Thoughts On Varun Chakravarthy Struggling For India

Former Indian batsman Abhinav Mukund explained his views on Varun Chakravarthy’s performance against Pakistan and revealed how to get the better out of him. Varun Chakravarthy was termed to be the X factor player for India in the T20 World Cup 2021 with his mystery spin but he proved to be quite ineffective in the first game against Pakistan.

Coming from an excellent IPL season in UAE, the expectations on Varun Chakravarthy was up the ladder despite his inexperience in the international circuit and he couldn’t pick up a wicket. His economy rate was always not going to be a big question mark and his consistent line and lengths at a good pace will always be tough for a batsman. Abhinav Mukund shared his thoughts on the mystery spinner’s performance against Pakistan in an exclusive chat with Cricket Addictor.

“I Think You Need To Be A Little Bit Patient” – Abhinav Mukund

Abhinav Mukund felt that Varun Chakravarthy still hasn’t been tested enough and he wanted the Indian side to be patient with him. He noted that it was more of the Pakistan batsman playing really well and added that making changes won’t help the cause.

“Varun Chakravarthy, a mystery spinner, it’s only been one game, so I think you need to be a little bit patient. It’s not as much that he bowled badly. It was four over, none for 33, but the Pakistani batsman batted beautifully. They were obviously no loss, both of them were in fine touch and I don’t think chopping and changing will help India’s cause.” Abhinav Mukund was quoted as saying in an exclusive chat with CricketAddictor

Abhinav Mukund Feels India Should Stick With Varun Chakravarthy

Abhinav Mukund was questioned on whether India should bring in R Ashwin or Rahul Chahar into the XI and he reckoned that India should keep playing Varun Chakravarthy in the XI. He believes that Varun will be a lot more beneficial to the side in the longer run.

“Stick with Varun and you will reap the benefits because I think he is going to be super effective against New Zealand. There will always be the temptation to play another spinner, but I will stick with Varun to ensure that India has an upper hand” He added

It will be interesting to see India’s bowling combination for the game against New Zealand today which is a crucial encounter.
