Asadullah Khan, Chief Selector of Afghanistan cricket, has resigned from his position due to issues with other members. According to ESPNcricinfo, Khan wrote a letter to the board citing “too much interruption” and interference from “non-cricketers”, who have “no knowledge about the players and selection” as the main reasons for his decision to leave the selection panel.

He stated that the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan, which will be played in Sri Lanka, was selected without his approval. He sent his resignation letter to ACB chairman Farhan Yusefzai on July 24, the day after the 17-man squad for the series against Pakistan was finalized.

In his letter to Yusefzai, Khan mentioned expressed his unhappiness for various reasons, least of all for being kept in dark about the squad to take on Pakistan. He was unhappy for not being given the “selection committee members” he has been asking for since his appointment in March; “Too much interruption” in his work and the involvement of “non-cricketers”.
He was displeased for not being allowed to “talk and have my says” in selection matters and not being granted an appointment with the chairman, Yusefzai, despite asking for one for the past three months.

The ACB had revamped the selection plan earlier this year with Khan at the helm. He was to be supported by advisors and data analysts, but it is reported that none were hired.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan are set to take on Pakistan in their first-ever ODI bilateral series; the 3-match ODI series, to be played between September 1 and 5, has been shifted from the UAE to Sri Lanka because the grounds would be unavailable because of the second leg of IPL 2021.
