BCCI Puts Up An Appreciation Post For Virat Kohli's ODI Captaincy Achievements

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) thanked Virat Kohli for his captaincy duties for the Indian team in ODI cricket.

On Wednesday, the BCCI announced an 18-member Test squad for the South Africa tour.

Rohit Sharma completely takes over white-ball captaincy from Virat Kohli

Apart from announcing the Test squad, the BCCI also mentioned that Rohit will completely take over the leadership of white-ball cricket as he was named the ODI skipper as well.

In the hindsight, Rohit will replace Kohli as captain of ODI, albeit, the latter was keen to continue as India’s skipper in Test and the 50-over format.

Just a month before the T20 World Cup, Kohli had announced that he would step down from the Indian captaincy role in the shortest format. Kohli’s decision was to reduce his workload management and he also did the same in IPL with RCB.

Virat Kohli to continue as India’s Test captain

Kohli led India in 95 ODI matches and 65 of them turned out to be on a winning note. Under his captaincy, India went to the final of ICC Champions Trophy and semis of the 2019 World Cup.

Kohli will continue to lead the Test side as he was named the skipper of the team for the South Africa tour.

Meanwhile, Rohit has won the Asia Cup in 2018 and the Nidahas Trophy in the same year and has also led the team in various bilateral series in Kohli’s absence.

India will play three Tests and as many ODI matches against South Africa with the tour starting on December 26.

India defeated New Zealand in both T20I series (3-0) and Test series (1-0) after losibg to them in the T20 World Cup, where Kohli & co finished third in Group 2.
