BCCI reveals the key players likely for the T20 World Cup squad 2024

With the excitement of the Indian Premier League 2024 reaching its peak, attention has now started shifting towards the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June.

There is a lot of buzz about the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. According to reports by The Economic Times, the Indian selectors are contemplating the probable 20-member squad that will represent India in the showpiece event.

Sources suggest that the Indian selectors are looking to finalize a squad comprising fifteen primary players along with five backup options for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. It is being said that Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian cricket team, with Virat Kohli also featuring in the team.

The media reports also suggested that Hardik Pandya might have asked to bowl his full quota of overs in the ongoing IPL 2024, but he is certain for the Caribbean and USA trips with the team.

On the other hand, BCCI sources also revealed that Virat Kohli will open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in the multi-nation event, but the Indian skipper avoided clearing up the notions. Meanwhile, a BCCI source told the news agency PTI about the names, which are almost certain to be picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

He revealed that apart from Kohli, Pandya, and Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, along with the ace pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, are likely to secure spots in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, provided they remain fit.

Out of these 10 players, around nine are expected to be part of the playing XI in the mega event. He also revealed that either Arshdeep Singh or Mohammed Siraj might have to sit out to accommodate an additional spinner in the playing XI, depending on the pitch conditions.

Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are likely to get the nod for the T20 WC

For the wicketkeeper’s role, Rishabh Pant is far ahead of his competitors like Jitesh Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul, thanks to his impressive keeping and batting for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL 2024.

However, given his form in the ongoing IPL 2024, his ability to handle pressure, and his ability to bat at the No. 3 spot, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson can be picked as the second wicketkeeper for the tournament.

Well, the competition for the backup spinner spot is heating up, with Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi vying for the spot. Axar Patel holds a slight advantage due to his strong batting abilities, which add depth to the team's lower order.
