Chennai Super Kings play Punjab Kings in back-to-back games in IPL 2024. They first play the Kings at home in Chennai on Wednesday, May 1. The five-time champions are placed third on the points table.

CSK won their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad who have decimated teams batting first so far this season. They found the chink in their armor and trapped them in the chase at home.

CSK as a side reads the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition very well. The same was seen in their approach in the game against SRH. After back-to-back defeats against CSK, they found a way to come back to winning ways at home.

So far CSK have won four out of the five games at home. They are looking for their sixth win at home This win can very well propel them to the second position on the points table.

CSK as a side does not believe in the theory of changing much and after a convincing win over SRH, they would like to stick with the same XI.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (C)

Gaikwad will open the batting against PBKS. He is fresh off a 98 against SRH and missed his second century of the season, unfortunately. After a slow start to his IPL 2024 campaign, he is now the second-highest run-getter of the season with 447 runs from nine games.

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane has not been consistent so far. He is now tried as an opener but that move too has not worked out so far. He scored just nine off 12 balls against SRH.

Daryl Mitchell

Mitchell will slot in at three. He has scored runs with a high strike rate this season so far. He has scored 198 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 132.00 and has done his job at three..

Shivam Dube

Dube will slot in at four. He has been particularly aggressive against spin this season. He has scored 350 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 172.41 and has hit 26 sixes.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja has been promoted up in the batting order many times this season. It has worked out for CSK in a few games. So far this season, he has picked up five wickets and has scored 157 runs.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali will slot in at six. He has not got many opportunities with either bat or ball but is in the XI given CSK's consistent run with players. He would want to get his chance in the next game.

MS Dhoni (WK)

Dhoni will slot in at seven. So far this season, he has not been dismissed and has scored 96 in just seven innings at a strike rate of almost 260.

Deepak Chahar

Chahar will slot in at eight. He missed out on a few games due to injury and has played seven games so far picking up five wickets. Against SRH he went for 22 off his three overs.

Tushar Deshpande

Deshpande has been CSK's trump card so far in the IPL. He he has picked up 10 wickets in nine games and took a four-wicket haul in his last match against SRH.

Mustafizur Rahman

The Fizz will slot in at 10. He too has been a revelation for CSK this season picking up 14 wickets in 8 games and is on par with Jasprit Bumrah. He took 2/19 against SRH where he began his IPL career.

Matheesha Pathirana

Pathirana concludes the likely XI for CSK against PBKS. He took 2/17 against SRH and has picked up 13 wickets in just six games averaging almost two wickets per game.

Impact Sub- Shardul Thakur

Thakur has been used as the Impact Sub by CSK in the last few games. They are using him primarily as a bowling sub which has worked out for them perfectly. He took 1/27 against SRH.
