English all-rounder Ben Stokes return to county season is likely to be delayed at least till the first week of May.

During the Ashes, Stokes was struggling with a side strain in Australia, yet he played purely as a batter.

During England’s tour of the Caribbean for the Test series, it was believed that Stokes’s workload would be managed but that did not happen.

Ben Stokes’ Workload Management Was Not Properly Managed

Ben Stokes’ in the first test against the West Indies sent down 41 overs in the match. That was the most overs he had bowled in a test since 2016. Overall in the series, he bowled 99 overs across three tests and picked up 9 wickets.

Earlier, Stokes did not give his name for the Indian Premier League auctions because he wanted to spend his time improving his red ball game after yet another Ashes debacle in Australia.

On ‘Round the Wicket’ Podcast Stokes admitted that his return to county cricket is going to be delayed.

He said: I think it was pretty obvious that I was struggling with my knee a bit out in the Caribbean,” Stokes said. “At the moment there is no training. So I will go and get the scans and then we can find out what’s going on, and then hopefully can make a plan from there.”

The England Cricket Board also released a statement on his injury which said: “Ben had a scan on his left knee which didn’t reveal anything new,” a spokesperson said. “We had planned for him to return to LV= Insurance County Championship cricket in early May and, while he is feeling tender in the knee, that plan remains the same following the scan. We’ll continue to manage him in conjunction with Durham.”

The English camp would hope that Stokes can return to the county season as soon as possible because England has 3 tests series scheduled during the summer; a one-off test against India, and then a test series against New Zealand and South Africa.
