Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi of South Africa believes that in order to prevent any form of catastrophe, both bowlers and hitters must remain below the line. His remarks were made amid all the commotion caused by Deepti Sharma’s dismissal of Charlotte Dean during this week’s Lord’s ODI.

Cricket players that have talked on the subject have expressed differing views. Meanwhile, Shamsi emphasised the necessity for fair play and respect for the boundary.

There’s No Controversy About That, The Rules Are There: Tabraiz Shamsi

“My views on that have been quite public. For me, it’s a pure case of bowlers having to keep their foot behind the line and batters should do the same as well. There’s no controversy about that, the rules are there and both sides need to play fair,” Shamsi was quoted as saying in a press conference.

Couple Of Sixes Here And There Makes No Difference: Tabraiz Shamsi

Starting on Wednesday, September 28, Shamsi will take part in a T20I series against India. He participated in four T20Is earlier this year against the Men in Blue, but only managed to take one wicket in three games while maintaining an economy rate of 10.20.

The seasoned spinner isn’t very concerned, though, and is prepared to atone in the following white-ball rounds.

“I don’t think anything changes much. There were a few balls that weren’t executed properly. But from that point of view, I am not too worried. On some days, some guys will be off the mark and on other days, those guys will do well. Couple of sixes here and there makes no difference, especially in T20 cricket,” he stated.

Shamsi also noted that South Africa must modify their game plans in light of the fact that conditions in Australia would change significantly from those in India.

“It is quite different; the pitches will be different in Australia and the ground sizes as well. The boundary size in India tends to be on the smaller side, whereas we know that in Australia, they are much bigger. As a bowler it is quite different, but again, there are always things that you can work on,” Shamsi added.
