Rajat Patidar, the Madhya Pradesh and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter, who shined in this year’s IPL 2022 and in the recent most India A- New Zealand A series is reportedly all set to get his maiden India team call-up for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.

After conquering the visiting Aussies, the Indian national cricket team is slated to play three T20 Internationals and three One-day internationals against the South Africa national cricket team starting from September 28 onwards.

Though a full-strength India team will clash with the Temba Bavuma-led Proteas side in the T20Is, a second-string ODI side is expected to clash against South Africa in the three-match series. This is because the Indian T20I squad will leave for Australia on October 4th right after the T20I series ends.

This means a team similar to that which played in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe recently, but under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan will play South Africa in the three ODIs, which are part of the ICC ODI league and critical for the Proteas who are down on the league standings and need wins to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in India.

Rajat Patidar To Get Maiden India ODI Call-up

PTI has reported that while much of the team which played in Zimbabwe is expected to remain the same under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan, there are possibilities of some new faces being given chances in Indian conditions.

While the likes of Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson are certainties in the squad, young Madhya Pradesh batter Rajat Patidar is likely to get his maiden call-up after a stellar season in the IPL and domestic cricket.

Patidar is in the midst of a fantastic season. A great IPL, a century in the Ranji Trophy final, two hundreds in Tests against New Zealand A, and a 45 not out in the first List A game against the Black Caps A side.

“You can’t ignore Rajat’s current form and he is a strong contender for a berth in the ODI squad. Even Shreyas will be travelling to Australia as stand-by with the main team. There will be slots in the middle-order,” the source told PTI.

The three ODIs will be played on October 6 in Thiruvananthapuram, October 9 in Ranchi, and October 11 in Delhi.
