Cricket South Africa Names Wandile Gwavu As White-Ball Fielding Coach

South African fans would be quite happy after securing direct qualification for ODI WC 2023 after the first ODI between Ireland & Bangladesh was washed out. Proteas finished in 8th position on the points table with 98 points in World Super League. Wandile Gwavu has been named the fielding coach of the Proteas for the white ball team. Wandile Gwavu was the assistant head coach of Joburg Super Kings in SA 20 and was a part of SA ‘A’ & SA U-19 squads as well.

It won’t be wrong to say that the World Super League was quite a success. The likes of Afghanistan & Bangladesh qualified for the WC 2023 and astonishingly  Sri Lanka & West Indies have to play ODI WC 2023 Qualifiers scheduled in June-July 2023 at Zimbabwe.

Wandile Gwavu was a part of South Africa’s coaching setup for the West Indies & Netherlands ODI Series as a fielding coach. Wandile Gwavu would work closely with head coach Rob Walter’s team

South Africa’s next ODI assignment is against Australia in August-September which would serve as a stepping stone ahead of the much-hyped ODI WC 2023. The skipper Temba Bavuma has rediscovered his mojo and played a key role in the series win against England, West Indies & Netherlands.

CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe was quite delighted to have Wandile Gwavu as a fielding coach for the white ball team. Nkwe stated that fielding is quite important in 50 over and T20 cricket and was quite optimistic that Wandile Gwavu will improve the fielding of the side ahead of the 2023 ODI WC.

“We are pleased to confirm Wandile as the fielding coach for the Proteas Men’s limited-overs team. He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level in South African cricket with a coaching career that speaks volumes,” said Enoch Nkwe.
