Delhi Capitals (DC) are having an up-and-down season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After having a poor first half they tilted the complexion in the second half but their most recent loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have yet again put them under the pump. 

Delhi Capitals had a great opportunity to seal the third spot in the points table had they managed to win the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Rishabh Pant-led side was at the receiving end of a 7-wicket thrashing at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. 

Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, they didn't have a great outing with the bat. The Rishabh Pant-led managed just 153 runs on the board, which was well below par at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They kept losing wickets right from the start and were under immense pressure. 

Kuldeep Yadav was the top run-getter for the team with his 35-run knock, which speaks a lot about the torrid batting display from the Delhi Capitals. Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata Knight Riders with his figures of 3/16. 

With the ball, Delhi Capitals failed to take early wickets. Phil Salt (68) took an attack on the bowlers and slammed them all over the park. The keeper-batter slammed a quick-fire fifty at the top and set the tone for his team. 

Axar Patel brought Delhi Capitals back into the game with two quick wickets. But the game was long gone from their hand. Shreyas Iyer (33*) and Venkatesh Iyer (26*) made sure that they took their team home. The duo added 57 runs for the partnership as Kolkata Knight Riders chased the target with 7 wickets in hand.

Delhi Capitals are stationed 6th on the points table of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They have played 11 games in the league so far and have won 5 games and lost 6 games. They have 10 points under their belt but have a poor NRR of -0.442. 

The loss against Kolkata Knight Riders has put Delhi Capitals in a tricky position in the Indian Premier League. They are in contention for the playoffs as well with a great chance but a mistake can also cost them a place in the business end of the tournament. 

To qualify for the playoffs, Delhi Capitals need to make sure that they win all the remaining three games in the Indian Premier League. This will take them to 16 points, which might book them a berth in the top 4 of the points table. 

A loss in the IPL 2024 might put them under pressure because they have a negative NRR. However, they still be in contention if they lose one game. They will have to win the remaining two games and hope and some other results go their way.
