England Vs India 2021: Prithvi Shaw And Suryakumar Yadav To Be Available For Selection From The 2nd Test

The Mumbai duo of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are all set to travel to the United Kingdom to join the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against England.

Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are currently in Sri Lanka with the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian team and they will travel to the UK only after the three-match T20I series.

The T20I series will kick off in Colombo on Sunday, July 25, and will culminate on 29th July.

While they will not be available for the opening Test of the five-match series which starts in Nottingham from August 4, according to a report in Times of India, by the time the second Test rolls around, the duo would have completed their mandatory quarantine, making them available for selection.

The second Test will take place at Lord’s from August 12.

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been called in as injury replacements after the trio of Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar got ruled out due to their respective injuries.

Gill was the first one to be ruled out of the Test series due to shin injury while Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar suffered finger injures during the warm-up game against County Select XI last week.

Prithvi Shaw will come in as the backup opener to Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal while Suryakumar Yadav is being looked at as a cover for Ajinkya Rahane, who is grappling with a hamstring niggle.

Shaw last played a Test for India at the Adelaide Oval in Australia last winter, post which he was dumped out of the playing 11 and the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, is an experienced FC cricketer for Mumbai, having racked up 5326 runs in 77 matches at an average of 44.
