Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has admitted that Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor luck with the toss in the ongoing IPL 2024 has become a big concern for the team.

While Gaikwad has done extremely well as a batsman so far and has been doing decently as a captain as well in his maiden season, his luck with the toss has been really poor. He has managed to win the toss only once in 11 games so far and has lost the toss in the last six games.

With the tournament at a stage where CSK just cannot afford further slipups, they will be hoping that Gaikwad's fortunes finally change with the toss. And while only time will tell whether Gaikwad's luck improves or not, Stephen Fleming has said that the team is now considering sending a player with Gaikwad for the toss.

"There has been a lot of talk about it. We are actually looking for someone to go out with him, we are really close to that point. Some of them have been pretty crucial. Even his wife has had something to say about it. So, there is a lot of focus on it, and that will be one of his first main jobs," said Fleming in a clip uploaded by CSK on their social media handles.

Well, if CSK indeed sends a player with Gaikwad to call the toss, it will not be the first time that something like that happens on the cricket field.

In 2019, South Africa came up with the same strategy after their former captain Faf du Plessis' losing streak with the toss. Du Plessis had walked out with Temba Bavuma as a proxy captain for the third Test after making the wrong call for a toss in the first two Tests. However, it did not make any difference as South Africa lost the toss again.

CSK eye crucial win:

CSK will be eyeing a crucial win when they take on Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 10). With six wins and five losses, CSK are currently in the fourth spot in the points table. Eight of the ten teams are still in the playoffs race and CSK just cannot afford another slipup at this stage.
