Shubman Gill & Co. locked horns with the Faf du Plessis-led side in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 28.

GT were invited to bat first in the match and they touched the score of 200 riding on sensational half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (84) and Shahrukh Khan (58). David Miller and Shubman Gill also made small contributions of 26 and 16 runs that ensured GT registered a good total.

Defending the total, GT bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Although Du Plessis was dismissed in the 4th over, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten and steered RCB to a 9-wicket win along with Will Jacks. Jacks smashed a stupendous 41-ball 100 while Kohli scored 70 runs to help RCB win their third IPL 2024 match in a dominant manner and keep their hopes for the playoffs alive despite being at the very bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.

Speaking after the match, GT captain Shubman Gill lauded Virat Kohli and Will Jacks for batting brilliantly and stated that they need to come up with better plans in the next few matches. Shubman Gill said:

"I think it was great hitting by them (Kohli and Jacks.) We need to come up with better plans in the next match, and also need to execute them."

Shubman Gill opined that the score registered by GT was a good one and said that the poor bowling in the middle overs was the turning point in the match. Shubman Gill said:

"When you are batting you can always think of scoring 15-20 runs more. We thought 200 was a good enough total for us, unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to. We were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs, I think that was the turning point for us."

What Happened In The Previous IPL Meeting Between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans

In the previous meeting between the two teams, the IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans had hammered the Royal Challengers Bengaluru comprehensively. They went head-to-head with each other on May 21 in the 70th match of the Indian Premier League 2023.

In that match, Virat Kohli (101) slammed a magnificent century and powered Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a good total of 197 for 5 as other batters also made decent contributions. For GT, Noor Ahmad picked two wickets while Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal, and Rashid Khan got one wicket each.

Meanwhile, King Kohli's brilliant batting effort went in vain in that game as Prince Shubman Gill (104) came up with an even better performance and he steered GT to an epic win win by 6 wickets and 5 balls remaining. For RCB, Mohammed Siraj, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Harshal Patel picked up 2, 1, and 1 wickets respectively.
