I Think India Will Hammer SL, Then He'll Understand': Danish Kaneria Lambasts Arjuna Ranatunga On His Disgraceful Statement On Team India

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has lambasted former Sri Lankan captain, Arjuna Ranatunga, for his disgraceful comment regarding the Indian team that is currently in the island nation to take part in three ODIs and as many T20Is.

With the senior Indian team including the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami currently in England, the team that will lock horns with Sri Lanka consists of a lot of youngsters apart from white-ball specialists like Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya.

Arjuna Ranatunga had recently termed the Shikhar Dhawan-led unit as a ‘second string’ team besides adding that the Sri Lankan board should not have agreed to play with a relatively ‘understrength’ team,

The statement attracted a lot of criticism and now former Pakistan leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, has joined the bandwagon, alleging that the former World Cup-winner has made this statement to stay in limelight.

Kaneria reminded Ranatunga of India’s bench strength, stating that the Shikhar Dhawan-led unit will comfortably beat the full-strength Lankan team.

“First of all, Mr. Ranatunga. You have made this statement to remain in limelight. Because only India is a team right now who have a pool of 50-60 players, strong enough to field two different sides. And even in this team, players such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya keep representing India consistently,” Danish Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.

“So I just want to say that I feel sorry to hear this coming from you. You’re such a big name and yet, you made such a statement and then fell flat on your face with Sri Lanka Cricket responding to you,’’ he added.

Kaneria further added that Arjuna Ranatunga should be grateful that India has agreed to tour the island nation given the significant decline that Sri Lankan cricket has endured in the past few years.

The former Pakistan cricketer state that the Indian tour will help the Sri Lankan board earn some much-needed money via sponsors and broadcasters.

‘’Sri Lanka cricket is on a decline. It’s almost as of they’ve forgotten how to play cricket. You should be happy that India is sending its team to lift you out of financial crisis. The board will get sponsors, funds and what not,” Kaneria pointed out.

“Don’t think such a statement was needed. These things only create friction between boards. I think Ranatunga must have learnt his lesson or when India would hammer Sri Lanka comprehensively, then he’ll understand.” he added.
