Joe Root castled Jasprit Bumrah with a beauty to send him back for a duck in the first innings of the ongoing first Test between India and England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The former England skipper could not make much of an impact with the bat earlier in the innings. While he got the start, he failed to capitalize on it and was out for 29. However, he has made amends with his stunning bowling performance in the first innings. While England’s frontline spinners have struggled to do well, Joe Root has managed to make an impact.

On day 2, England opened the bowling with Joe Root and he made an instant impact by dismissing the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over. Later in the day, he dismissed a well-set KS Bharat as well. India had gone on to finish the day on 421 for 7 in reply to England’s first innings total of 246.

Joe Root impressed with the ball two on day three, as well as his impressive bowling, helped England break the stubborn partnership between Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja and wrap up the Indian innings. In the 120th over of the innings, he first dismissed Jadeja to end his brilliant 87-run knock and the 76-run stand with Axar Patel.

And on the very next ball, he dismissed Jasprit Bumrah for a duck with a beauty. Bowling from round the wicket, Joe Root bowled a length delivery that spun in sharply to beat the India pacer’s forward defense on the inside edge. The ball went on to crash into the middle stump.

Even before India could add any run after the twin blows, Rehan Ahmed bowled Axar for 44 to wrap up the innings. The young spinner finished with 2 wickets while Joe Root finished the innings with 4 scalps to his name. Debutant Tom Hartley picked up 2 wickets as well.
